Triathlon podium for Team Intrinsic at Croyde Ocean Triathlon

Team Intrinsic’s Matt Cox has successfully defended his 2017 second place overall at the ‘stunning and savage’ Croyde Ocean Triathlon. Despite the weekend’s blistering heatwave, Matt completed the Olympic distance course in 2:32:07 to achieve another category top two ranking.

The Olympic distance event is one of 220 Triathlon’s “Top 21 must-do” UK triathlons and takes in some of the south west’s most stunning scenery. “Croyde Ocean Triathlon is billed by organisers as ‘not for the faint-hearted’ and it never fails to deliver – this year was no exception,” commented an elated Cox. “Crystal clear waters, hills, sun and more hills, it certainly lived up to its ‘stunning and savage’ tag line today and took everything I had. Given the energy-sapping conditions I am made up with another podium finish behind elite triathlete and local lifeguard Jack Hutchens.”

It was a tough day out too for Matt’s brother and Team Intrinsic guest athlete Jon Cox: he suffered a blowout on the bike within 1km of the final transition and searing heat on the run. Nevertheless, Jon showed true Team Intrinsic mettle and crossed the finish line in 3:48:48.2.

Meanwhile, some 240 miles away on the ‘Sunshine Coast’, Chris Roberts, MD of Intrinsic Facilities Engineering completed the Eastbourne 10k in 46:46.72 to finish 4th in category (50-59) and 36th overall as he continues to prepare for Ironman Barcelona in October. “It was a scorching day on Eastbourne seafront, but it always gives me a buzz to support Intrinsic’s ‘home’ events, especially when it’s to help raise money for a local good cause, on this occasion Autism Sussex.”
