Intrinsic-sponsored triathlete Matt Cox has made it four from five with another victory at Minehead Triathlon 2022. He cruised to his fourth course win, defending last year’s title with a deceptively comfortable margin almost two and a half minutes ahead of his nearest placed rivals.
Fresh from a GBR Age Group bronze at the World Triathlon Long Distance Championships, Matt’s performance left no doubt he had the legs for the popular season finale.
“Sunshine, fish and chips, great company and another epic event, can’t ask for much more on Sunday morning!” he reflected modestly. Even the less athletic amongst us would have to agree with that.
“I’m happy with my performance” he continued, “especially off the back of such a competitive season. But the gap to second doesn’t reflect the challenging nature of the course and how hard the racing was on the day. It’s never in the bag until it’s in the bag.”
Matt’s a familiar face on the podium at Minehead which takes place in the shadows of the breathtaking Exmoor National Park. He won here in 2018, 2019, 2021 and finished a close second in 2020. The 750 metre open water sea swim follows a two-lap Aussie-style exit course before a 20km fast and undulating bike route. The 5km coastal run covers mixed terrain with what organisers describe as a ‘cheeky climb’ and a beach finish.
Shout out to Channel Events UK for its superb organisation and safety, and to all ‘TRIBE’ volunteer event staff.
