At time of posting, Intrinsic-sponsored athlete Matt Cox is Slovakia-bound to compete for Team GBR in the 2022 World Triathlon Long Distance Championships. It’s a far cry from dipping his toe in the water in a rented wetsuit.

Matt’s first to admit how far he’s come since pitching up a decade ago at the JLL Property Tri in an ‘awful crop-top’ tri-vest, a borrowed bike and a rented wetsuit. “I had zero triathlon experience but embraced the day and remember wanting to do it again,” he recalls. “By the time I’d seen the Brownlee brothers competing at the London 2012 Olympic Games, I was hooked and made it my goal to represent Team GBR.

“Intrinsic’s support is huge,” says Matt. “Professionally it’s great to be involved with a company that is so big on personal development, both within the business and beyond. The team recognises that sport injects the energy needed to drive targets and achieve the highest goals.

There’s far more at stake than winning

“I’m who I am because of triathlon. A podium finish is always satisfying but I genuinely don’t care for the results. My intrinsic motivation comes from the sheer enjoyment the sport gives me; whether that’s pushing myself to the limit (and often just beyond), the thrill of racing, or putting in the daily grind and striving to be the best version of myself.”

“It’s a privilege supporting Matt as he achieves his ambitions,” comments Intrinsic MD Chris Roberts. “Natural talent aside, being the best means having a plan of action, the discipline to get up early, and to stick with regular, consistent, repetitive training – nowhere near as exciting as racing but it delivers results. And to become the best version of you, it’s vital to keep the goal in mind. All of this mirrors our values and how we operate.”

Good Luck Matt, we’re rooting for you!
